Making Men was a mentoring programme for underachieving 10 – 16-year-old Black boys from the London Borough of Brent.

The programme began in 2013 and focused on providing young Black boys with mentors – someone to speak to, share their challenges with, and learn how to increase their attainment in education.

RESULTS:

  • 100 individuals applied to become mentors and BANG successfully trained 77 mentors.
  • 51 mentors were successfully matched with a young person.
  • 71 boys were referred to the Making Men programme.
  • 80% of the matched relationships between a mentor and a young person continued beyond the programme.
  • Making Men was featured on the talk radio station LBC to discuss the positive impact of the programme.
