WE WEAR HERITAGE

HERITAGE, CULTURE, AND FASHION

BANG and CVS Brent have collaborated to create We Wear Heritage.

We Wear Heritage is a paid volunteering programme for youths to develop their understanding of heritage and culture through fashion.

We Wear Heritage was developed for 13 – 16-year-olds who live in Brent – engaging young people in activities that highlight the importance of cultural fashion, entrepreneurship, and administration along with practical work experience.

The planned workshops, developed at BANG with CVS Brent, include a trip to The Brent Archives and the Museum of Youth Culture. The combination of trips and activities benefit the young people as it enables them to explore many different cultures that are prevalent not only in Brent, but across the UK and the world.

We Wear Heritage plans on delivering sessions where each young person brings in an item of clothing from their culture and presents its significance.

In addition, the young people will do research on the back story of important staples of fashion.

Understanding the diversity where they live is necessary to help each volunteer be proud of where they come from and celebrate each other’s differences.

The programme does not solely focus on culture and fashion but will help each volunteer advance their employment skills through tasks and activities such as interviewing, presenting, and research.

These skills are transferable in the workplace as it prepares them for the future.

The We Wear Heritage programme will support the growth of each volunteer, improve their self-confidence, and contribute to their future endeavours.
