RIDDIMUP: PRESS RELEASE
In May 2024, a select group of UK artists will have the unique opportunity to join a new initiative called RiddimUP, spearheaded by BANG.
This project will take UK acts to Jamaica to participate in an artist development program aimed at promoting Rastafari culture worldwide. They will collaborate with skilled Jamaican musicians and producers to create an EP that will be performed at an event in London (October 2024).
BANG, the organisation behind Riddim UP, is dedicated to youth, advocating for their interests and developing them to be leaders who will build sustainable communities.
The inaugural RiddimUP project in 2014 featured Dre Island from Jamaica travelling to the UK for the first music and culture exchange programme. He has since achieved international success with multiple global hits.
Jennifer Ogole, Founder and CEO of BANG, shared, “We are collaborating with UK artists to cultivate and advance Rastafari music and culture through Riddim UP 2024. They will record at Tuff Gong Studios with Dean Frazer as the Musical Director, and then return to the UK to launch the EP at a family-friendly event in October 2024, celebrating Jamaican and Rastafarian food, music, and culture.”
The project, which began in March, will soon welcome four acts – Subajah, Judah Dareign, Askala Selassie, and Bongo Kanny-to Jamaica to commence recording the EP.
Their experience will extend beyond music production, as they will also be immersed in Jamaican culture, connecting authentically with the local communities in places like Trench Town and Tivoli.
RiddimUP is funded by Arts Council England, supported by Jack Russell Music Publishing and endorsed by artists and musicians such as Capleton, Masicka, Vybz Kartel, Mortimer, and others.
