Through group discussions, traditional cooking, cultural trips, and content production, young people learn skills and participate in creative activities that strengthen their sense of belonging and identity, rooted in where they come from.
As many of the students we are working with come from a multicultural background, this project aims to help them embrace their cultural heritage and diversity.
The young people also develop key skills, including leadership, communication, research, planning, and decision-making—giving them the tools to access opportunities for leisure or career goals.
Who Am I fosters understanding of diverse backgrounds and the celebration of difference.
We interviewed young people about their heritage and culture to discover what makes their background special and unique.
The students spoke of their origins ranging from Africa and Asia to Europe and the Caribbean. The topics we focused on in the interviews included food, lessons learned from their family, and significant music and cultural references.
These interviews took place with students from Preston Park Primary School, St Claudine’s Catholic School for Girl, and BANG Young Leaders.
We delivered a cooking workshop with young people from St Claudine’s Catholic School for Girls to explore a mix of cuisines from different cultures.
