EMMELIA: DELIVERING DELA MOVE
AT ST CLAUDINE’S CATHOLIC
SCHOOL FOR GIRLS
As a parent of a child with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), my journey has been filled with successes and challenges in equal measure. From navigating the complexities of diagnosis and interventions (including accessing services in the community) to celebrating every milestone and achievement, my experiences have shaped my perspective on what it means to provide the best possible support and inclusive opportunities for my child.
The catalyst behind my vision for creating inclusive services and opportunities is my lived experience and the personal adversities I faced while trying to access services for my child. Inclusive SEND services extend beyond individual support; they encompass the needs of the entire family unit. Recognising that a disability impacts not only the individual but also their loved ones, inclusive services should aim to empower and support families on their journey.
Inclusion should be more than just physical access; it is about creating environments where everyone feels welcome, valued, and respected for who they are.
Through BANG and the services it provides, I believe that we can create inclusive SEND services that support the whole family. This will be essential for promoting the well-being, resilience, and empowerment of individuals with SEND and their loved ones.
By recognising the unique needs and experiences of families, fostering supportive networks, and providing access to comprehensive services, we can create environments where all families feel valued, supported, and included in their journey.
Together, let us embrace inclusivity and build stronger and more resilient families and communities.
