ISHTI: MARKETING INTERN
AT BANG
Reflecting on my internship at BANG, it’s amazing how much I’ve learned about the working environment and personal growth.
While my internship may have been short, the insights gained have been invaluable. BANG has been a catalyst for my professional and personal development, revealing several important facets of the working world.
One of the most striking lessons has been the recognition that every individual within an organization holds importance. At BANG, they truly embody the belief that everyone’s opinions matter, and every thought expressed is taken into consideration. This inclusive approach not only fosters a sense of belonging but also encourages each member to contribute their unique perspectives.
BANG’s commitment to nurturing personal interests and helping interns find their place within the organization has been transformative. This support has not only boosted my confidence but has also provided clarity about my aspirations for the future. The diversity of projects on offer, each targeting different activities to assist young people in achieving their goals and building character, is truly commendable.
One of my major responsibilities during this internship has been organizing a barbecue event in collaboration with BANG and the DePaul charity. This task has illuminated the immense importance of organisation in event planning. Whether an event is big or small, there’s an abundance of details to consider, often requiring months of meticulous planning. From understanding the target audience to catering, the environment, and much more, event management demands careful consideration of every aspect.
My involvement in this project, which includes creating social media invitations using tools like Canva as well as defining the target audience, and organizing event activities, has given me a newfound appreciation for the hard work that goes into every event.
Furthermore, I was tasked with researching the recruitment of volunteer mentors. This involved finding out the requirements to recruit mentors, including funding considerations and the expectations placed on mentors, along with the necessary rules and regulations. Identifying the key qualities to look for in potential mentors, such as empathy and strong listening skills, was another crucial aspect of this research.
In addition to my specific tasks, I’ve had the opportunity to attend mentorship lessons. These sessions have been instrumental in helping me chart my professional progress and identify strategies to achieve my goals. Utilising techniques like using cards has enabled me to gain clarity about my aspirations, goals, and areas where I may need additional support.
In conclusion, my internship at BANG has been a transformative experience. It has not only provided me with practical skills but has also instilled in me a deeper understanding of the intricacies of work life. From the significance of individual contributions to the meticulous planning of events and the importance of mentorship, my journey at BANG has been fulfilling.
I look forward to continuing to learn and grow as I navigate the exciting path ahead in my career.
